Princess 10k 2018 (Tuesdays on the Run Edition)

Saturday came by really quickly.  I didn't sleep well and I was exhausted from the day before.

In case you missed previous posts from the Princess Half Marathon Weekend:
We got ready and headed to the bus stop around 3:45 AM.  There was a huge line with no buses in sight.  Thankfully after about 5-10 minutes several buses came up and we boarded one.

Candace and I were in different corrals for this race, so when we got there we parted ways and waited for the race to start.  My quad that bothered me the day before didn't bother me, but the one that was fine was bothering me while we waited.

After waiting for what it felt like forever the corals started to move to the start.  It felt like it got chillier so while we walked I found a jacket that someone ditched and put it on.  I really liked it a lot and ended up keeping it through the race.

We were soon off.  The course has a boring 3 miles before it gets into Epcot.  The roads are narrow with way too many people.  The course was just so crowded that it was just so frustrating to run more then here and there.  But at that point it really didn't matter as I was trying to walk as much as I could.

We finally made it into the park.  There was such a beautiful sunrise.

I noticed a few ladies out that had made skirts from all of their Dopey shirts.  They were kinda cute.

We went around the world and into the Boardwalk.  I totally love running the Boardwalk as there are just so many people out cheering.  It really is just heart lifting.

Heading back into Epcot, there was a lot of construction going on.  It looked like it was part of the new Skylift that they are putting in.  I think it will be a fun way to get to one area to the other.  Hopefully some great views.

I didn't stop at any of the character stops, but some of them included: Mulan, Lilo, Pocahontas & her racoon friend.  Pinocchio, stilt people, Marie from Aristicats, and baseball Goofy.  I really wish that the line for baseball Goofy wasn't so long as I would have loved a picture with him.

I did stop and got a few pictures with the Flower and Garden Festival.

And Spaceship Earth.

Finished the race and got my medal, water, and food.  I also got some ice for my knee.  It really wasn't hurting, I just wanted to preempt anything.

Even though Candace started in the coral behind me, she still finished at the same time.  We chatted for a bit and then she went strait to meet her family for breakfast and another park.  I headed back to the hotel and hung out at the hotel.  I spent the rest of the day just relaxing and spending some time by the pool.

Continue reading on to the Half Marathon.

MCM Highlights (Tuesdays on the Run Edition)

I came home with the crud that has been going around.  At least it waited till after the race.  Other then that I have some pain in my leg (which didn't start till after the race - again at least it waited till after) but that's it.  For now here are some of the highlights of the weekend.

- The big new is that I set a PR.
- I had a great time catching up with my friend Candace.
- The White House was beautiful.  Being Halloween weekend they had some fun things related to that.

- The Gaylord National Harbor Hotel and Convention Center is huge.  We got lost a couple of times.
- The shake out run was more of a walk for us.  The brunch afterward was good, but there was no eggs, just bacon, which was really weird.  Bart Yasso is a very funny speaker.  I really enjoyed his talk during our brunch.
- The pasta dinner had some really good pasta.  And Billy Mills was very inspirational.  I thought about his talk at times when I struggled during the marathon.
- It was very moving being around all the marines (and all other branches).
- I had a lot of complements on my outfit.
- There were a lot of very sexy marines.
- The marathon was HOT.
- There were a lot of dreaded out and backs (which I hate).
- The marathon was HOT.
- I beat both the Gauntlet and Bridge with plenty of time.
- The marathon was HOT.
- Everything after the point of beating the bridge was boring with lack of crowd support and shade.
- The marathon was HOT.
- The medal is pretty sweet.
- Room service is amazing after a hot marathon.

I'll have detailed posts about all of this coming in the next couple of weeks.

MCM Outfit (Friday Five Edition)

The Marine Corps Marathon is this weekend.  My race day outfit is always a thought process.  A destination race is a little harder to plan.  I've done a lot of Disney races and there dressing up is not only allowed, but encouraged.  But this is the Marines.  Even though the race is the day before Halloween, I really didn't want to dress up, but I wanted a patriotic themed my outfit.  This was my thought process of my outfit.

1. Skirt - I love wearing skirts to races.  I have issues with the skirts that come with built in shorts because the shorts never fit me right and I get chafed everywhere (sounds familiar with my latest bout of finding new shorts).  I have found a company on Amazon called CowCow that has a lot of really cute skater skirts.  They have a lot of great designs and are very comfortable and long enough to cover up my shorts.  The only issue with them is that they are based out of Hong Kong and it takes forever to get your package shipped.  So this is something that has to be planned on at least a month in advance.

2. Shirt - I wanted to get a plain red tech shirt that I could do a design on.  Easy enough to get one local or online.  I never thought it would be easy to make my own shirt.  I was always in awe of those who did because I'm just not a crafty person.  After different discussions with Meranda who has done many super cute shirts herself, I learned it really wasn't that hard.

3. Design - Now to come up with the design.  I scoured the internet for the perfect image or saying that would mean something to the Marines and the marathon.  I found the saying "Charge the District, Beat the Bridge, Take the Iow" on the MCM website and knew that was the saying I wanted to use.  I found some images online to go with the saying.  I used a Photoshop type software to put everything together.

At the last minute I thought I wanted something on the front.  I found the Marine Corps image and added my name and MCM 2016.

4. Transfers - This is were the easy part of creating your own shirt comes from.  I purchased some transfers for light fabric.  I've tried the transfers for dark fabric before and it really didn't turn out well.  I think this is because most of the designs I've done were mostly black outlines and black text.  The trick with using transfers for light fabric is that you have to flip the image horizontally (best to print everything out on paper first so you don't waste the transfer paper).  Once your image is printed out you just iron it onto your shirt.

5. Headband - I currently don't have a patriotic headband for running.  Not sure why as I can use it around Memorial Day and 4th of July.  But since it is Halloween weekend, I thought I would break the patriotic theme and wear one of my Halloween headbands.  I don't know which one yet, and probably will decide race morning.

So here is the first sneak peak of my outfit.

So remember to follow me on Twitter - @heatherlas and Instagram - @heathersspin as I will be posting throughout the weekend.  And maybe even during the race.

Have you ever designed and made your own shirt?  Do you like to dress up for races?  What's the most extravagant outfit that you have worn for a race?
