Weekely Update (Weekly Wrap-up Edition)

Well it's been an interesting week.


First Monday started with me not wanting to go for my run.  So I slept an extra hour and when I got to work to see that the building was being evacuated.  It turns out that a drink machine on my floor caught on fire.  We were displaced to different places around the building or went home to work there.  I decided to join our business partners on their floor and worked till I could get back to my desk.  It was fun sitting with them.

Tuesday I was supposed to go to my gym class and I got up and ready and went downstairs to put on my shoes, my stomach just hurt.  I laid down on the couch and just tried to let it pass.  I didn't have my laptop so I had to at least go into work for that.  I was able to get a Ginger Ale - having to go to another floor since they removed ours - and started to feel better.

I did get my run in on Wednesday but it was a crappy one.  It was hot and I'm really losing my running endurance.  But I got out there and did it.

Thursday we found our that our manager got a different position in the company.  It really doesn't effect me, but it will be interesting as we have an interim manager as we wait for the new one to be hired.

Friday over 400 letters that were sent to customers got sent back to us.  I don't 100% understand how it happened, but it meant that we had to re-stuff the envelopes by hand.  Not only that, we had to check them off a list, twice because we had a handful that didn't match the list.  It was tedious, but fun with the people I was working with.

Here we have an outdoor theater that does two Shakespeare plays a summer.  We went to one Friday night.  There was a chance of rain, and it did start about 15 minutes after the play started.  So we got a voucher to go back next weekend.  On my way home the isolated downpours seemed to have followed me home.  It was so bad that everyone was going 15 MPH just to be able to see anything.  We all had our flashers on to make sure we could be seen.  Major roads were being flooded and it seemed like every block we were splashing.  There was one road where the mailboxes had about a foot of water up to them.  It turned out it was just my side of town.  My folks barely got any rain and we got about 3 inches in an hour.

Friday I realized that my triathlon is next weekend.  WTF?1?  Where did June go?  Saturday I decided to join the Sunrise Ride and we took off around 5 AM.  Yes that's early, but seeing the sunrise is so worth it.

And seeing these sites just make the ride fun.

On the ride, I decided that I'd go for a run and do my first and only brick for this training cycle.  I knew if I could do the ride and then a 3 mile run I could do the race.  I road 35 miles and then ran 3 miles.  I knew I could do it, but this was just want I needed to figure out how hard it would be.  And it was hard.  I walked most of the last mile.  This will be the least confident I will be going into a triathlon.  We will see how it goes next week.

Saturday afternoon I went to see Wonder Woman.  It is such a great movie.  Who needs Captain America when we have Wonder Woman?  It was great to see a woman super hero of her own movie.  I hope to see more as the genera grows.

Star Wars Dark Side Half Marathon 2017 (Tuesdays on the Run Edition)

I feel like a lazy person not getting this out earlier.  But that's life and here it is.  Thankfully I made some notes about it so it won't be "dark, boring, hot, done".

The morning started early again.  We didn't get on the first bus this time as we knew we weren't going to stand in line for any pictures.  Franklin was not running the half, but was there to see the start and both Kelly and I were in different waves again.  The time up to the start of the race was the same as all of the Disney races.  Like the 10k they split each coral up into different groups and let us go a few minutes apart.  The last coral didn't leave till about 50 minutes after the start of the race.

The first couple of miles were very unforgettable.  We started in the parking lot of the Magic Kingdom and headed down towards Animal Kingdom.  They had a school band near the start and then a couple of photo ops.  The first was R2D2 with a not too bad of a line, but since I got a picture with him during the 5k, I decided to skip him.  The second was of an Ewok.  I really wanted to stop for him, but the line was super long.

But really what was annoying about the first few miles was that we were on back roads where it was very dark and hard to see much around you.  Every so often they would have spot lights, but that was it.  They did have a section where they had laser lights flashing around and they ended up flashing me in the eyes.  That was not fun.

By mile 3 it was already getting hot and humid as the sun started to come up.  I wished I had thought to bring my towel to wipe the sweat off my face.  About this time I decided to put on my music as I was really bored.  I did see a couple of fun "costumes" that people had.  One guy was in full Dark Helmet costume from Space Balls.  Man do I love that movie.  For the first Disneyland Star Wars race I dressed up as Dot.  And then another person had a Dunder Mifflin Fun Run shirt from The Office.  That is one of my favorite episodes and I would have never of thought to buy one to wear at a race.

They had a couple of non-character photo ops that I thought were fun.  The first I came across was from Star Wars A New Hope where they were stuck in the garbage compactor.  They had this setup at Disneyland and it still is a fun photo op.

About 4 1/2 miles in we finally reached Animal Kingdom.  Yay!!  I was so bored up till then, that I was glad to have something fun to look around and see.  I was doing a quick clip for my vlog and right as I finished I heard someone ask if I was Heather.  I looked around and it was Chaitali.  I knew she was going to be there and had kept an eye out for her.  I saw some of her Instagram pictures so I knew what she was wearing but she found me first.  It was so good to meet her and have someone to talk to for a few minutes through the park.

We really were in the park for about a half a mile, which seemed like a shorter time, especially having someone to chat with.  After we got through the park, we split our ways as we were doing different intervals.  As we rounded the lake outside the park we had this most beautiful view.

The other non-character photo op that I stopped at was the Emperor's chair.  There was a nice person there that was wiping down the chair after each person because we were all drenched in sweat from the humidity.  And I really felt like this, just hot and tired.  My IT Band was bothering me a bit at this point as well.

At this point we were making our way to Hollywood Studios.  Again there really wasn't much to look at on these back roads.  They did set up a few movie clips from different Star Wars movies throughout the course which was a nice distraction.  I think my times got slower near there so I could watch more.

Somewhere during mile 7 I really got into a funk.  I really kept trying to use my mantras to keep my spirits up, but they really weren't helping.  There weren't any spectators out in these areas as there isn't a way for them to get out there.  There wasn't anything interesting to look at except for road and other runners.  It was just getting hot out.  Thankfully at this time it was still a bit overcast so we didn't have the full sun beating down on us as well.  I just kept putting one foot in front of the other, just to get to Hollywood Studios.

By mile 9 the sun was starting to peak out from the clouds and just was making things hot.  I kept seeing signs for Hollywood Studios and kept thinking that we had to be close but we never seemed to get there.  It felt like a mirage, you could see it and you kept moving towards it but you never got to it.

We finally got into Hollywood Studios a little after mile 10.  The 501st Legion had a group set up again right before we entered into the park.  Like the 10k the day before, we were in and out of that park in less then half a mile.  It did help my funk once we got into the park, even for a short time.  I was in a park and would be done in less then 3 miles.  That was something to be happy about.

The rest of the course was the same as the 10k from the day before.  We made our way out of the front of Hollywood Studios to the path that leads to The Boardwalk.  Once I hit The Boardwalk I knew my funk was gone.  I really do love running there.  There are so many people that come out to cheer you on that it always picks me up.

And then we finally made it into Epcot.  It was great to see Spaceship Earth.  I knew the finish line would be right behind that and that thought got me to the finish line.  We actually were in Epcot about the same time as the other parks put together.

The 501st Legion group was also right before the finish line like they were for the 10k.  A last pick me-up before the finish line.  As I rounded the corner I pushed as much as I could to finish the race.

We went through the finisher's chute and collected medals.  I got my medal for the half marathon.

Then I got one for the Rebel Challenge.

Then I got the black Coast to Coast (which I still don't get why).

Then I got the mother of all medals.  The one I do both the Star Wars races for.  The Millenium Falcon.

Overall I really did not like this course either.  There was so little time in the parks and after spending that much money for the race, I would like a little more time in the parks.  Last year's course wasn't the best one I have done, but it was a ton better then this year's.  Would I do it again?  Yes, I already signed up.  I had a great weekend with my friends and expect the same for next year.  And there is always a chance that they will change the course again.

After the run I went back and cleaned up and rested for a bit.  I headed back to Disney Springs to find someplace to eat.  I walked around some and ended up back at Paddlefish.  Their crab fries were so good that I had to get them again.  I also read tons of reviews on how wonderful the Fish and Chips were so I had to try them out (minis the chips as I was having the crab fries).  I do have to say that the fish was good, but not for the price I paid.  I think next time my whole meal will be the crab fries.

And as I made my way back to the boat to take me to the hotel I was greeted with this beautiful sunset.  A perfect way to end my trip to Disney.

Weekly Update (Weekly Wrap-up Edition)

I haven't been doing a lot of running lately, but I have been getting out there.

Wednesday was National Running Day and I didn't run.  I didn't sleep at all the night before so when my alarm went off I had to just turn it off to get an extra hour of sleep.  I was so tired all day long that I knew that it was the right decision.  I did get a run in on Monday so at least I got one run in this week.

Monday after work I went to get my bike fitted.  This entailed some measurements and then different tests on a spin type bike.  Things to make sure my knees were aligned properly and that I was comfortable.  Then he took those measurements and applied them to my new bike.  Then a few more minor adjustments my bike was ready to take home.

Friday night a friend of mine and I went to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.  They are open late on Fridays as they have half priced wine.  There were tons of people there out enjoying the beautiful weather and some good wine.  We took advantage of the late closing and went to see Yves Saint Laurent: The Perfection of Style exhibit.  I've never been into fashion, so I have never heard of him.  But after seeing some of his iconic work, I knew a couple of his outfits.  It really was a fun exhibit and a great night.
The next morning I went on my first ride on my new bike.  There were 4 of us that broke off into a group.  We headed up and did about 20 miles up and stopped at Starbucks for a short break and then did 15 miles back.  I have to say that I LOVE my new bike.  Like love, love.  It's such a smooth ride and very little pain in my behind.  I can't wait to go for my next ride.

My dad had his first and probably last day at the day center.  Apparently he got mad because they wanted him to join in and then he got physical.  I talked to my mom and she decided that she will push to get some anti-anxiety drugs for him and find home care for when she is working.  She even said that she knows that my dad is basically gone.  There are little lights of him here and there, but the disease has basically taken over.  I really thought the day center would be such a great thing for both of them and it's sad that it won't work out.

A lot of shows that ended in May are now starting to hit the streaming world.  For those shows that I didn't keep up with during the season are mine to binge this summer.  That and Game of Thrones and Twin Peaks and all TV goodness this summer, I have a feeling I'll be wasting a lot of time in front of the boob tube.

I'm still keeping up with my daily challenge.  Now that we are getting close to the half way mark, I'm having to make sure that I have more time to do the exercises.  We are up to 45 squats and 45 leg lifts.  We go all the way up to 100 of each so that will take some extra time in the morning.

Triathlon Tips and Tricks (Friday Five Edition)

Growing up I did a lot of swimming and biking.  Now that I had added running into my life, I thought it was about time that I try to do a triathlon.  In 2013 I did my first tri and since I have done 3 more sprints and one Oly.  I have posted some things about swimming and biking as I am currently training for another sprint tri.  Here are some things that I have learned along the way.  Please keep in mind, all of this is from my experience and things that I have read.  Other races might be different.

1. Distances - For those that are new to triathlons it is made up of a swim leg, a bike leg, and a run leg.  99% of the time they are done in that order.  I have done a reverse Tri which I did the run, bike, then swim.  I really like that one, but I can see why they do it in the order that it is.  I was so tired by the time I got to the swim that I had a hard time breathing and swimming so I walked a lot in the shallower part of the pool.  There are 4 main distances in triathlons just like in running. 
  • Sprint - The sprint is the one that has the most fluctuation on what distances they offer, but for me I see it as the equivalent of a 5k in the running world.  It is usually where most people start before the bigger races.  The swim is usually anywhere between 300-800 meters, the bike anywhere between 10-20 miles, and the run anywhere between 1-4 miles (but is usually a 5k).
  • Olympic (or Oly) - This usually has a standard distance for everything.  It is a 1.5k (or almost a mile) swim, 40k (or 25 mile) bike ride, and a 10k (or 6.2 miles) run.
  • Half Ironman (or 70.3) - Ironman is a brand, so not all 70.3 are called a half Ironman, though it is a common name like Band-aid or Kleenex.  The distance is always the same, as it adds up to 70.3 miles.  The swim is 1.2 miles, the bike is 56 miles and the run is a half marathon (13.1 miles).  One day I hope to do this distance.
  • Ironman (or 140.6) - This is the distance I always think of a marathon distance in the run world.  It's that thing that you always wonder if you can do, but know you have to put your full attention towards it.  The distances are 2.4 miles for the swim, 112 miles for the bike, and a full marathon (26.2 miles). 
There are a lot of different distances in between these, just like running.  There are even ultra-triathlons, which are any distances above 140.6, just like ultra-marathons are any distance over 26.2.

2. Training - For my first triathlon, the thought of the training was very overwhelming as I didn't know how to get everything in and what to focus on.  For one sport it is easy to focus on speed and form and all the little things.  But when you have 3 to train for, IMO, not one will be perfect.  When I'm in tri training, things get dropped.  I'll miss some of my gym classes (weight training) and I won't run as much as I usually do.  I know some of the training plans for a full Ironman you can have 2 workouts a day.  I don't know if I'm willing to put that much dedication into it, so for now, the full is not anything that I want to do.  But maybe if I drop 50 pounds. :)

For my first tri in 2013 I joined a group that was training specifically for that triathlon.  My first was an all girl sprint, which most women in my area use as a first tri.  Which meant, that everyone that was training was all women and most have never done a tri.  So we were all in good company not really knowing what to expect.  The group made us a training plan to follow and we met on Saturday mornings where we would have a clinic of sorts about running or biking or transitions and then head out to do our brick workout.

A brick workout is an important workout to have during your training.  This is where you do your bike workout and then you do your run (weather it's just a mile or your full run workout).  What this does is condition your legs to go from biking mode to running mode.  It is called a brick because when you get off the bike and try to run, your legs feel like bricks.  It's the weirdest sensation.  They suggest to do at least a mile after the bike ride because that is about how long it takes for that feeling to go away.

Most groups that put on triathlons will have clinics.  I highly recommend attending these, especially if you are new to the sport.  The clinics are usually on the course, so you can get comfortable before your race.  I will always try to make at least the swim clinics, especially the open water ones, as that allows me to swim in an environment that I couldn't on my own.  If you feel weak in one area, join a group.  If the swimming leg scares you, take some lessons.  While you will have butterflies before a race, in a triathlon, you really should feel comfortable in all areas.

3. Transition - I think this was the scariest thing my first time.  I knew nothing about how to go from swimming to biking to running.  I had never seen a tri and the whole concept of the transition area was so foreign.  With my training group we did have a clinic session about transition and it explained a lot, though I was still overwhelmed by the thought.  Basically the transition area is where your bike and other equipment is while you are doing the other legs.

The area is full of racks where you can place your bike.  There are several bikes that can be put on each rack.  All of the triathlons that I have been to have had assigned racks.  This is based on bib number and usually each rack has assigned numbers to them.  So one rack might hold bib number 1-6 and the next will hold bib number 7-12.  If you have bib number 5 you can rack it anywhere on that first rack.  I like to get there early to make sure I can rack my bike on the outside and not be in the middle of everyone.

Along with your bike, you will have everything you need for all three legs.  Most people put a towel down in their area to mark their spot.  The spots are tight, so it's best not to hog too much space up.  Since most tris start with the swim, everything for the bike and run should be setup and easy to get to.  For sprints, everyone tries to get through each transition as quickly as possible.  For halfs and full Ironmans people take a little more time.  There is even a place to change clothes between the different sports.  Transitions can be stressful as you are trying to do a lot of different things quickly, but if you are organized and practiced, it's not too bad.

4. Clothing - Clothing can be a challenge in any sport, but when you are doing three back to back, it becomes even more of a challenge.  Unless you are doing a longer tri where there is a place to change, you will wear the same thing for the whole race.  You can wear what makes you comfortable to get through everything, but most people wear Tri Kits or Tri Suits.  The kit is a two piece top and shorts while the suit is all in one.  The idea of these is that it's form fitting enough to not cause a drag in the water at the same time giving you a little bit of padding for the bike without feeling like a diaper when it gets wet.  It's made of material that is quick drying, especially with the wind of the bike after the swim.  

I have used both.  Some people, especially guys, can get away with something different, but I have to have a sports bra to run.  So I will wear that under my top, even during the swim.  Like bike shorts, most people usually don't wear underwear under the shorts as that can cause more chafing, especially when they are wet.  I really hate wearing either because they are skin tight and that is not very flattering for me, but I prefer the suit as the top usually rides up on me more then I like with the kit.  The best thing to do is to try different things out and make sure you go for a swim in what you plan on wearing with maybe a run after and see how things feel.

5. Pool vs Open Swim - The swim seems to be the one sport that most people I know say is the reason they haven't done a tri.  I grew up swimming, so I have never really had those concerns, but I do understand them.  The swim portion of triathlons are either in a pool or open water (a river, ocean, or lake).  Being new to triathlons, I knew I didn't want to add stress to it all and do an open water, so I opted for one that was a pool swim.  The rest (except for my reverse tri) have been open water.  

A pool swim is done where you swim down a lane and back in the same lane on the other side.  Then you go under the lane marker and go up and down the second lane.  This is repeated through the whole pool.  So the length of the swim for that particular tri is usually how big the pool is.  An 8 lane pool will usually be a 400 meter swim.  Everyone is lined up in the order of how fast they predict they are and one by one in about a 15 second delay jump into the pool and start swimming.  What I don't like about pool swim is that people usually don't put the right time down or they have a better or worse swim then they have had in practice.  And as you can imagine when you have people swimming up and down the same lane, it is hard to pass or get passed.  So if you need to pass someone, you tap their foot and at the end of the lane they are supposed to wait and let you pass at that point.  So the congestion bothers me enough to prefer open water swim.  But the nice thing about the pool swim is that if you feel uncomfortable at all you can walk the lanes and hold onto the lane markers if you want.  Like any type of race (especially the beginning) adrenaline, nervousness and excitement all hit, adding water to the mix sometimes is not the best combination.  So it's nice to be able to know you can hold onto something if needed.

Open water is basically any body of water.  I've only done them in the river here.  In open water there are several waves.  When it's time for a wave to go everyone in the wave gets in the water and stays behind the start buoys till the start is announced.  Because it's harder to see where you are going, there are one colored buoy to mark the way and if there is a turn a second color buoy is used.  They have volunteers in kayaks that are out there if anyone needs any type of help, even if it's just holding on to catch your breath.  Some people don't like open water swims because people will bump into you and maybe even try to swim over you because they are not paying attention to others around them.  I just start far away from the main group, even if that means I will swim a little bit of a longer distance.  I'm not out there to win, I'm out there to finish.  One of the open water tris that I have done has swim angels.  They are volunteers that will swim next to you to help you feel more comfortable. They are there to guide your way help if needed.  Also with an open water swims there is always the potential to wear a wet suit.  You can only wear a wet suit if the water temp is below a certain temperature.  Everyone that has done a lot of tris get really excited for the races that allow wet suits in as it's supposed to help you float, therefore makes you faster as you are not putting in extra energy into floating.  I have never used one, and in fact it really intimidates me as the only time I have is when I have Scuba Dived and I just remembered hating putting one on and taking it off.  But the nice thing is, most tris that allow wet suits have volunteers after you get out of the water to help you pull it off.

Bonus:  If you have had the want to do a triathlon but one or more legs of the race intimidate you, you have options.  Volunteer!  A great way to see how things are done and give back to the community at the same time.  Another thing you can do is sign up for the Aquabike division, where you only do the swim and bike.  Or you could grab one or two friends and do a relay.  Each one of you do one of the legs of the race (with a 2 person team one of you will have to do two of the legs).

Star Wars Dark Side 10k 2017 (Tuesdays on the Run Edition)

Here is my recap from the Star Wars Dark Side 10k.

We got up early again and got an early bus.  This race we had bags to check and characters to visit.  We decided that we wanted to visit with Darth Vader, so Franklin got in line while Kelly and I went to drop off our bags.  

Once we got our picture with him we headed to our corals.  All three of us were in different corals so we parted ways.  I got up to the front of the area and waited for the race to start.  As my coral started moving, I was in the front with the runDisney banner.

We started off in the Magic Kingdom parking lot and headed our way to Hollywood Studios.  There really wasn't much of anything to see for the first 3 1/2 miles.  They did have a couple places where they were showing clips of movies.  The weather was warm and a bit humid, but not as bad as what they were calling for.

Before we went into Hollywood Studios the 501st Legion was out there cheering for the runners and taking pictures.

We turned into Hollywood Studios, passed the Tower of Terror, and then exited the park.  We were in the park for a blink of an eye.  We had nothing but side roads for almost 4 miles and then when we finally were able to get into a park, we exited before we could really start enjoying ourselves.

We headed down the path that lead us to the Boardwalk.  At this point things got a little tight, but not too bothersome.  

I did notice that there were people that were running on the other side of the water.  They were not part of the Star Wars 10k as the course did not go that way.  But there were more then a few people out there running and they seemed to have bibs on.  It was weird and I never figured it out.  I then saw this guy on the bridge at the Boardwalk.  He was there to cheer us on with all the other people.  He was very close to the other spectators.  It amazes me how most of the wildlife at Disney is not afraid of the people.  Probably because of all the people food that gets tossed to them.

We made our way to the Boardwalk.  I love running on the Boardwalk at Disney races.  There are a lot more people that come out to cheer on the runners here.  After almost 5 miles of boring course and almost no spectators, it's such an uplifting moment to run there.

Right before we entered into Epcot, Chewie was there where he was the day before in the 5k.  The line was longer then it was the day before.  I was happy to be getting into Epcot as I knew that the race had to be close to over with.  We entered in near the UK Pavilion and headed to Spaceship Earth and out to the finish line that is the same finish line in most WDW runDisney events.  

Where the choir usually is, I found a very short line for Chewie and Rey.  This Chewie looked a little lighter then what I was used to, but hey, it's fun.  

Then I got a picture with some Rebel Troopers and some Stormtroopers.  At this point I was a bit confused by them and then I headed towards the finish line and saw more characters.  Ohhh, it was another group of the 501st Legion that was out there to cheer us on.  

I rounded the corner and there was the finish line.  I was happy that this race was done.  As I crossed I saw another Stormtrooper who was telling us to keep moving there was nothing to see.  But I jumped in and got a selfie before crossing the finish line.

After crossing the finish line, we had the same water, Powerade, and food boxes.  I brought my own bag that folded up nicely in my belt.  I was glad to have it and think I'll be doing that for other races.

Overall I thought the course was VERY boring.  Nothing like running for 3 miles in the dark with nothing to look at.  I felt like I was on a training run and not a race.  Once we hit parks and property it started to be lots of fun, but that was only for like 2 miles.

Catch Up On The Last Few Weeks (Weekly Wrap-up Edition)

So I haven't done a weekly wrap up in a few weeks so I thought I'd do a quick recap.

Last I left it, my mom was having knee surgery.  She did great.  They had her standing and putting a little weight on it 5 hours after the surgery.  She went home 2 days later and has been doing great with her recovery.

My dad went into respite for the week while my mom recovered.  I think he did well.  At least that's what they said.  He is home now and hasn't lost his routine, which is what my mom was worried of.  He will be starting a day center next week, which will give my mom some time to herself and it will also give him other stimulation.  I hope it helps him.  I can tell things have gotten worse with him as he is quick to get frustrated, which then he takes out on whomever is trying to help.  It just makes me mad because that is not him.  He is such a gentle man and to see him do that is very upsetting because it's not him, it's the horrible disease.  So maybe having some trained individuals around him a few hours a day might help.

I just finished Robin Robert's book, "Everybody's Got Something", and as the title says, everyone does have something to get through.  It just seems like the right time to read this to know that I'm not the only one dealing with something.  I LOVED this book.  It was about her latest health struggle and throughout the whole book I wished she was my friend.  She is such a real person and so uplifting.  The next book on the deck is "The Handmaid's Tale".  It's not a type of book I tend to read, but my mom gave it to me for my birthday and I have had several people say that I have to read the book and then watch the series on Hulu.

I saw a couple of movies.  The first Guardian of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which I really enjoyed.  It was very funny, despite the boring family issue it was a fun movie.  I also saw Alien: Covenant.  It's the sequel to the prequel of Alien.  It was a typical Alien movie - fun and scary.

A couple friends at work decided to do a 30 day fitness challenge.  I've thought about doing one of these, but usually that was in the middle of the month and I am too OCD to start something like that in the middle of the month.  And I would never remember when it was the first of the month to start it.  So we are doing the 30 Day Buns, Guns, & Abs Challenge from Squishy Cheeks & Cupcakes.  We are on the 4th day and I need to get off my butt and do today's set.

I went on my first real ride on Saturday.  Probably did too much the first time.  The ride I like to do takes off a few miles from my house.  It's great because I don't have to load my bike on my car and can just ride up there.  Doing that, the ride turned out to be 25 miles.  About 10 miles more then I probably should have.  It was the first Saturday of the month and the bike group has a new rider ride.  I didn't realize that this year they moved it to a different place, so I was the only one there that wanted to do the smallest amount of miles.  So I was on my own on the way back.  I really wanted to wait for someone, but I had to get to my hair appointment.  It really wasn't that bad as there was very little traffic.  The only problem was that my ass HURT.  Like bad.  So bad that a few miles from my house I thought I was going to throw up.  I couldn't wait to get off the bike.  That'll teach me for doing too much too quickly.

I got home and quickly showered and headed to my hair appointment.  Since I cut it short, I have been on the fence on if I want to keep it short or grow it out again.   A few weeks ago I had a dream that told me what I wanted to do - grow it out so that I can cut it and give it to Locks of Love.  Locks of Love takes long hair that is cut and turns it into wigs for those going through health issues which makes them lose their hair.  So we have to grow out the dyed blond hair first so it will probably take a couple of years to get it long enough.  But I'm excited.

After my hair appointment I decided to look into getting a new bike.  Not really because of my bum, but just to make riding much more comfortable as my bike is just a little bit too long for me.  After a couple of years of saying I need to get a bike, I finally pulled the cord and did it.  I had been eyeing the Avail Advanced since I did a test ride two summers ago.  I went into a local shop here and did another test ride and I knew it had to come home with me.  I'll go back to the shop tomorrow to get it fitted and I'll bring it home then.  I'm so excited for my next ride next weekend.

Today I think I'm getting sick again, or should I say my allergies are kicking my ass again.   I was just dealing with this less then 2 weeks ago so it is very irritating.  We will see what tomorrow brings.
